Street Play
Date: 9th and 10th June 2024
Following up on last month’s theater workshop organized by CRY and Sahyog, a new play addressing the local issue of increasing child labor and the importance of education was developed. This was accomplished through a five-day workshop, culminating in continuous rehearsals. The result was a 10-minute play titled ‘Shiksha Ka Adhikaar,’ performed by the children of Sahyog in various areas of Vatwa, Ahmedabad.
On June 9th and 10th, 2024, the street play was performed in three different areas of vatwa, reaching out to more than 300 people. The process of writing the play and its performance was facilitated by Hozefa. For all these children, it was their first time performing in front of such large crowds. They enjoyed the experience and learned valuable skills in public presentation and communication on critical social issues and also developed understanding on the issues.
Training with Teachers – Year-Long planning with Apollo School
A comprehensive year-long plan has been developed in collaboration with Apollo School. This initiative aims to enhance understanding of the Indian Constitution among students from 9th to 12th grade and to provide teachers with training to develop their perspectives on various social issues. This planning is a result of our continuous engagement with the school since last 4 years, including providing theater training to students and conducting teacher training on diverse topics. The broad focus with student will be on to develop understanding of the Indian Constitution, to address behavioral changes in students, and to explore issues related to education.
The broad focus with teachers will be on to enhance teachers’ perspectives on various societal issues (caste, religion, gender, class and language issues), to integrate understanding of the Indian Constitution and the FoRB module and to address educational challenges and behavioral changes in students.
It has been decided that each year, newly enrolled teachers will be trained according to the developed plan. Post-training, teachers will conduct activities with students, which the school will subsequently follow up on.
In light of this initiative, Hozefa conducted three training sessions during the reporting month with teachers:
